“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, when I was 33. The American Cancer Society highly
recommended that I call Cindy at CSFI. Cindy was very concerned about getting help for me and my
three children. I was going through an eviction and I needed help paying for medications. Cindy got in
touch with people that could help me. She called a Congressional office and wrote a letter to a judge
on my behalf--she even went to court with me. As a result of her work, a hold was placed on my eviction
and I was able to keep my utilities on. Cindy also got a pharmaceutical company to provide the
medications I needed and she found a college scholarship program for my daughter to apply to.
Because Cindy’s been through cancer treatment, she understood my feelings and mood swings. She
was there for me to talk to every step of the way. My health is much better now. Thank God for Cindy.
She’s really been there for me and my family.”

“I’m 42 years old and have been battling breast cancer since 1983. Last year, the cancer center where I
was being treated gave me a list of places to call for help, but no one would listen to my story except
Cindy. I was homeless with two kids, living in a car during the winter and getting my family washed up
at McDonalds. I lost my apartment when I was in the hospital. My landlady came to the hospital to
collect $1900 from me for rent, but she stole the money and evicted me. When I got out of the hospital,
my things were thrown out on the lawn and some of my children’s toys had been stolen. The landlady
said I violated my lease. Cindy provided money to help me get into another apartment. She was the
only one who stood by me. Now my kids and I have a home. I’m still going through treatment and I call
Cindy for encouragement when I need it. If it wasn’t for her, I don’t know how I would have gotten
through this.”

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and needed financial help. I’ve been too sick to work
while I’m in treatment, so I lost all my income. My husband’s income from the military hasn’t been
enough to pay our bills. He’s stationed in another state right now while I go through treatment, take
care of our 5-year-old son, and care for my elderly mother. I thought there would be cancer
organizations I could go to for help, but CSFI is the only one that gave me money so I could make my
car insurance payment. The VA hasn’t helped us at all and we are still struggling. When I’m well
enough, I want to volunteer for CSFI, because no other organization is providing these kinds of services
for cancer patients.”
